By Andrew Adams HANNA INSTRUMENTS The HI2002 or "edge" pH and oxygen reduction potential meter by Hanna Instruments Inc. is half an inch thick and weighs 9 ounces to allow it to be used as either a portable or bench-top device. The unit features a 5.5-inch LCD display screen, capacitive touch keypad and dual USB ports. The supplier recom- mends pairing the HI2002 with its HI10480 pH and temperature electrode. The HI2002 costs $399, and the HI10480 is $199. hannainst.com METTLER TOLEDO The new Seven2GO portable pH meters by Mettler Toledo are designed to provide quick and accurate analysis in the field. The meters can be used with sensors for pH, conductivity, dis- solved oxygen and ions and fea- ture a bright mono TFT display that can be viewed at any angle down to 5° and in direct sun- light. Cost: $625-$1,600. us.mt.com HAMILTON CO. EasyFerm Bio pH sensors are intended for applications in the food and beverage industries, where intensive CIP is con- ducted. The sensor is pre- pressurized to prevent clogging of the ceramic diaphragm and the diffusion of sample into the reference electrolyte. The unit sends data via a 4-20 mA or digital Rs485 Modbus Signal. The 450 offers additional memory for re- sults storage, a data download function and a backlit display. Both units feature the company's Grip Clip, which enables the user to run a hands-free test. The 450 can be used with an ion selective electrode. Prices in- clude the meters with a standard Oakton electrode, pH 150: $440; pH 450: $650. 4oakton.com VINMETRICA The SC-200 device is designed to provide a quick and easy analysis for pH and titratable acidity. The unit is accurate at +/- 0.2 g/L for tartaric acid and +/- 0.02 for pH. The meter is sold as part of a complete kit for the first 30 tests. Cost: $189. vinmetrica.com SENSOREX The SAM-1 probe by Sensorex plugs into the headphone jack of an Apple or Android smartphone or tablet and connects to Sen- sorex analytical sensors to mea- sure and record pH, temperature, oxygen reduction potential and conductivity. Time, date and GPS location are recorded with each reading, and users can add further location details and ad- ditional comments. Readings can be shared via email or exported to a spreadsheet. Cost: $129. sensorex.com SENOVA SYSTEMS The pHit Scanner device by Senova Systems does not need to be calibrated by the user, doesn't employ glass probes and can be stored dry. The company's proprietary probe technology has a range of 2 to 12 pH, a pH unit resolution of .01 and an integrated temperature range of 5° to 50° C. The meter can be operated in six different languages and features standard five-point pH calibration or optional custom calibration points as well as a meter-controlled stirring probe.
