Tennessee grocery stores to sell wine Officials with the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commis- sion expect 270 grocery stores across the state will acquire the necessary permit to sell wine under a new law slated to go into effect in July 2016. A bill proposed by a state represen- tative would allow grocery stores sales starting in July of this year, but state regu- lators say they are unprepared to make the change in 2015. SUPPLIERS Roll Global acquires Mercier California Roll Global, which already owns Vintage Nurseries in Wasco, Calif., announced its acquisition of Mercier California in Vacav- ille, Calif. The French company Mercier purchased the Galo Maclean Nursery business and prop- erty in 2006 as part of a U.S. expansion. Roll, which owns Fiji Water, Justin Vine- yards & Winery and other agricultural companies, will con- tinue to operate the business under the Mercier name. New rep Tonnellerie Ô Kristen Capella is a new sales consultant for Cork Supply USA and will serve the south Napa, Sierra Foothills and San Joaquin Valley rep- resenting Tonnellerie Ô and Creative Oak. Capella is a Level II certified sommelier with experience in restaurant man- agement and wine buying. Coope joins Zepponi & Co. George Coope, a veteran of food and wine investment banking, has joined the mergers and ac- quisitions advisory firm Zepponi & Co. of Santa Rosa, Calif. Coope has more than 25 years of experience advising businesses in the beverage, consumer packaged goods and technology sectors. Coope joins Zepponi as the senior direc- tor of strategy and analysis and will be responsible for proj- ect management and market analysis. New owners for S.F. Wine Exchange The San Francisco Wine Exchange, a wine marketing, sales and import firm, has been ac- quired by Universal Wine Wholesalers. The acquisition al- lows SFWE founder Hugh Thacher to retire at the end of the year. Universal Wine Wholesalers is owned by Jose Maria Barale, the owner and principal of Brazilian energy firm Grupo Alubar, and Diego Lo Prete, the former head of global marketing and communications at Group Codorniu in Barcelona, Spain. Lo Prete will assume the role of president. Vintage 99 names new VP Gary Cane is the new vice president of operations at Vintage 99 Label Mfg. Inc.'s facility in Santa Rosa, Calif. Cane has more than 40 years of printing experience and has been with Vintage for more than a year working to improve plant efficiency and solidify client rela- tionships. Vintage 99 is based in Liver- more, Calif. McCarthy joins Saury USA as sales director Martin McCarthy is the new sales director for Tonnellerie Saury USA handling the company's barrel and oak alternative sales. McCarthy has more than 15 years of sales experience and was the former sales and marketing manager for Tonnellerie Ra- doux. Saury is part of the Charlois Group, which also operates a cooperage produc- ing American oak barrels in Cloverdale, Calif.
