ASEV's Boulton to retire; replacement named After three decades as executive director of the America Soci- ety for Enology and Viticulture, Lyndie Boulton announced her planned retirement as well as the appointment of assistant execu- tive director Dan Howard as her replacement. Boulton revealed her plan to retire at the end of June, and Howard's promotion will take effect in April. Boulton will work part-time through June to help with the transition. Petaluma Gap group submits AVA application The Petaluma Gap Winegrowers Alliance announced it had submit- ted a petition to the TTB to form the new Petaluma Gap AVA. The proposed appellation would span more than 200,000 acres in south- ern Sonoma County and northern Marin County. More than 80 dif- ferent vineyards encompassing 4,000 acres of vines already exist within the boundaries of the pro- posed AVA. New winemaker at Cornerstone Kari Auringer is the new winemaker at Cornerstone Cellars in the Napa Valley. Auringer worked at Cor- nerstone for most of the 2000s as the assistant winemaker and rejoins the winery after working for Scarecrow Wine, Lindstrom Wines, Keever Vineyards & Winery, Kelly Fleming Wines and Corra. New CEO at Martinelli David Hejl is the new CEO and general manager of Martinelli Winery and Vineyards in Santa Rosa, Calif. Hejl has more than 30 years of experience in the food and consumer products industries and most recently was the CEO and general manager of Kosta Browne Winery. Hejl assumes the role of CEO from Lee Martinelli Sr., who was the winery's CEO and chairman of the board since 1973. Martinelli retains his role as chairman. NORTHWEST Oregon wine honors members of wine industry The Oregon Wine Board awarded Jim and Loie Maresh, the owners of Maresh Red Hills Vineyard in the Dundee Hills, its Founders Award on Feb. 24, during the annual Oregon Wine Industry Awards dinner. Earl and Hilda Jones, founders of Abacela winery in Roseburg, Ore., received the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Outstanding Industry Service Award went to Chad Vargas, vineyard manager at Adelsheim Vineyard. New national sales director at Colene Clemens Lorne Mews is the new national sales director at Colene Clemens Vineyards and estate winery in Oregon's Chehalem Mountains AVA. Mews is the former vice president of Benton-Lane Winery, and prior to that worked in wholesale sales in the on-premise sector for Young's Columbia Distribution Co. in Oregon.
