QUALITY STAINLESS TANKS A fter a slow start in January, flash offers for domestic wines shot up by more than 30% in February, as the website Invino posted 182 offers. Invino, which often has the highest monthly total for offers, ac- counted for 34% of the 533 total flash offers for domestic wines in February. Nearly all of Invino's domestic wine offers that month were from wineries in California, and of those most were in Sonoma or Napa counties. Wineries from these two counties— and the rest of the North Coast region, includ- ing Mendocino and Lake counties—had the highest rate of flash offers. Of the 2,031 winer- ies in the North Coast, 640 (or 32%) had a wine offered by a flash website. Wineries producing more than 50,000 cases per year had a high level of participation in the flash channel, but such wineries account for less than 4% of all U.S. wineries and 17% of wineries with a flash offer. Wineries producing 5,000 to 49,999 cases had a 29% participation rate, and 26% of all wineries with an average bottle price of $30 and higher had a wine for sale via flash. Of the 1,059 wineries with a wine offered through a flash site, 67% produced between 1,000 and 49,999 cases of wine per year, 62% had an average bottle price of $30 and more, and 61% were located in the North Coast re- gion of California. —Andrew Adams FLASH SITES COMPARED FOR FEBRUARY Flash Reseller Number of Domestic Offers Average Flash Price (750ml) Average Discount Page views* Cinderella Wine 4 $27.51 33% 16,000 Invino 182 $22.24 40% 148,000 Last Bottle Wines 13 $30.00 41% 195,000 Last Call Wines 77 $24.48 49% 6,000 Lot18 38 $21.48 26% 453,000 The Wine Spies 25 $29.63 30% 27,000 Wine Woot 60 $17.09 48% 1,005,000 Wines Til Sold Out 49 $17.64 55% 797,000 WineShopper 15 $14.26 40% 88,000 Source: Wines Vines Analytics, winesandvines.com/flash. *Source: Compete.com, February 2015.
