58 Wines&Vines March 2015 wine industry news wine east t his year, the first day of the Eastern Winery Exposition will be divided into two tracks: one for attendees who are start- ing out a vineyard or winery, and another for those looking to take their business to the next level. The latter will include educational sessions about topics such as financing, winery tech- nology, management software, the four major wine closures and a seminar about design and construction for winery expansion. Architect Allen Rossignol, whose Edge Architecture firm de- signed Red Tail Ridge Winery and the new Viticulture and Wine Center at Finger Lakes Community College in Geneva, N.Y., will discuss strategies for optimizing the building site and using sus- tainable construction materials to work with the surrounding environment. Working with the environment can also reduce energy costs, Rossignol said, citing FLCC's Viticulture and Wine Center as an example. The center was built with an east-to-west orientation, he said, limiting exposure to the setting sun and controlling heat and daylight permeating the facility. The architect also advocates building in stages, saying this gives wineries room to grow.
