Fairbanks is the new president of the Dierberg Vineyard and Star Lane Vineyard winer- ies that are both located in Santa Barbara County, Calif. Fairbanks most recently was the president of the Hyde de Villaine winery in Napa Valley. Fairbanks will develop mar- keting and branding strategies for the wineries and work with manag- ing director and winemaker Tyler Thomas in overseeing all opera- tions. Fairbanks is a Santa Barbara native and descendent of the de La Guerra family, which traces its roots back to Jose de la Guerra y Noriega, the fifth commander of the original Presidio de Santa Barbara. New assistant winemaker at Chalone Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines an- nounced Yian Lu is the new assis- tant winemaker at Chalone Vineyard winery, located in the Pinnacles area of California's Central Coast. Lu will work closely with senior winemaker Robert Cook to produce estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Lu joins Chalone Vineyard after working harvests in France, Austra- lia and California, including a posi- tion at St. Supéry Estate Vineyards & Winery in Napa Valley. Don & Sons launches new venture Don Sebastiani & Sons of Sonoma, Calif., launched a new venture named New House Vintners, which will focus on the Sebastiani family's craft winemaking programs in Napa and Sonoma counties. The com- pany will be a vertically integrated operation with winemaking, market- ing, sales and distribution aligned from grape to bottle. The new firm's brand portfolio will include Don & Sons Sonoma Signature Series Pinot Noir, Sivas-Sonoma, The Crusher (Clarksburg, Calif.), Il Donato (Italy), Gunsight Rock (Paso Robles, Calif.), Simple Life (Clarks- burg), and Americano, along with new 2014 releases Delish Sauvi- gnon Blanc, Queens Peak Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon and Custard Sonoma Valley Chardon- nay, to be released in early 2015. NORTHWEST Scott Paul founders sell interest Scott and Martha Wright, found- ers of Scott Paul Wines in Carlton, Ore., announced in early December that they had sold their interest in the company to partner Cameron Healy. Scott Paul Wines was a com- bination import wine company and estate winery. The Wrights founded the winery in 1999 in Yountville, Calif., but decided to focus on mak- ing Pinot Noir and moved to the Wil- lamette Valley in 2000. Healy is the founder of Kettle Foods and Kona Brewing Co. He joined as a partner in 2003. Wright will continue to work with the winery as a consultant for a year, and the couple will retain own- ership of Scott Paul Selections, the wine import company they launched in 2006.
