W i n e s & V i n e s D e C e M B e R 2 0 1 4 27 M.A. Silva plans building, buys firm Cork, glass and wine packaging supplier M.A. Silva announced that it broke ground on a $7.5 million facility adjacent to its existing building near the Sonoma County Regional Airport in Santa Rosa, Calif. Des Architects + Engineers designed the 70,000-square-foot custom building, which will be built by Alston Construction. The company also announced its acquisition of Vintners Global Resource's packaging busi- ness, which will work with M.A. Silva's other partnering company, Oak Tradition. VGR CEO and founder Andy Brassington and account manager Teresa Lawrenson will join the M.A. Silva team. Details: masilva.com. Novavine unveils Protocol 2010 block Grapevine nursery Novavine held a reception Oct. 24 to showcase its new increase block planted with the new Protocol 2010 material developed by Foundation Plant Services at the University of California, Davis. The company claims the new block, located in Woodland, Calif., in Yolo County, features the newest and cleanest grapevine stock in the world. Proto- col 2010 material is produced through micro- shoot tip propagation and then undergoes rigorous testing to ensure it's free of all known vine pathogens. Details: novavine.com. Lelievre joins Mistral Anne Claire Lelievre joins Sonoma, Calif.- based Mistral Barrels, the U.S. subsidiary of Chilean cooper Tonel- ería Nacional, as sales manager. Lelievre worked for Tonelería Nacional six years ago as marketing manager before working in the Australian wine industry and then joining Nadalie USA. Details: mistralbarrels.com. Several new hires at Cork Supply Cork Supply of Benicia, Calif., announced several new hires including Josh Trowbridge as vice president of sales for its oak division. He will lead a team of oak consultants repre- senting the barrel alternatives division Cre- ative Oak. Jonathan Jewell is Cork Supply's new global brand marketing manager. Robin Barron-Miller, CS, is a new member of Cork Supply's sales team; Chemayne Faulconer is a new member of the Top of the Bottle sales team, and Cole White joins Cork Supply as oak consultant. Adams acquires Tapp Label Following its acquisition of LabelOne Con- nect in Beaverton, Ore., and Bonham Label in Livermore, Calif., Adams Label Co. of Napa, Calif., announced it formed a new venture to complete the purchase of Tapp Label Tech- nologies in Napa, Calif. All of the companies will operate under the Tapp Label brand to offer digital, flexography and offset printing in California, Oregon and British Columbia. Laffort hires new rep Matt Ridge is Laffort USA's new technical representative for the Central Valley, Lodi and Sierra Nevada Foothills regions. Ridge will be based in Lodi, Calif., and comes to Laffort after working as a winemaker at wineries in the Central Valley, North Coast and Lodi. Details: laffortusa.com.
