24 W i n e s & V i n e s D e C e M B e R 2 0 1 4 N O V E M B E R N E W S Promotions at Diageo Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines in Napa, Calif., an- nounced the appointment of Adolfo Alarcon as winemaker for Acacia Vineyard and Mayacamas Olds as its vineyard-oper- ations and grower-relations director. Alarcon will work alongside fellow senior winemaker Matthew Glynn at the winery in the Carneros AVA and continue to work as winemaker of Orogeny Vineyards in the Russian River Val- ley AVA of Sonoma County, Calif. Alarcon joined Diageo in 2012 to oversee the company's bottling operations for its wineries in California's North Coast and Central Coast regions. Olds joined Diageo in 2012 as grower-relations representative and statewide viticulturist enhancing the sustainable farming practices for more than 5,000 acres. Olds is also a member of the boards of the Napa County Farm Bureau and the Napa County Resource Conservation District. Seghesio buys 98-year-old Zin vineyard Seghesio Family Vineyards, owned by Crimson Wine group of Napa, Calif., announced its ac- quisition of the 24-acre property known as the Montafi Ranch Vineyard located just outside the city limits of Santa Rosa, Calif., in the Rus- sian River AVA. The property is home to 13 acres of Zinfandel planted in 1916, bringing Seghesio's total vineyard holdings to more than 300 acres. The company will continue to sell some of the vineyard's grapes to Carlisle Win- ery for its Montafi Ranch Zinfandel. New winemaker at Chase Russell Bevan is the new winemaker at Chase Cellars in St. Helena, Calif., where he will oversee production of the entire portfolio of wines for the family-owned winery. Bevan makes wine under his own label, Bevan Cel- lars, and has consulted for other Napa Valley wineries. He assumes the winemaking duties at Chase for Joel Aiken, who is focusing his attention on his brand and other consulting projects. Details: chasecellars.com. New winemaker at MacMurray Boyd Morrison is the new winemaker at E. & J. Gallo Winery's MacMurray Estate Vine- yards in Healdsburg, where he will focus on producing Pinot Noir from vineyards in the Russian River Valley and California's Cen- tral Coast. Morrison comes to MacMurrary after gaining winemak- ing experience at win- eries in Napa, the Central Coast, Alexan- der Valley and Chile.
