The native of Memphis, Tenn., had been a newspaperman and a pub- lic relations agency executive in New York and Chicago before coming to California in 1965 to lead the Wine Institute's PR pro- gram. He joined Robert Mondavi Winery in 1980 and later would found his own public relations firm. Founder of Belle Glos, Meiomi forms new company Joe Wagner, the founder and winemaker of the Belle Glos and Meiomi Pinot Noir brands and a member of the Caymus Vine- yards family, announced the formation of a new wine company, Copper Cane Wines & Provisions, based in Rutherford. The new com- pany will be the home of Meiomi, along with cigars and women's swimwear. Copper Cane also plans to release a Meiomi Chardonnay as well as Elouan, an Oregon Pinot Noir, and Carne Humana, a red blend from Napa Valley. Details: coppercane.com. New hires at Terravant Mari Kelly is the new director of sales for the East Coast market of Terravant Wine Co. in Buellton. The private-label wine company also announced that Laryssa Adame was pro- moted to the post of brand manager for the new Wines & Designs Portfolio division. Kelly is based in Virginia and is the former director of business development for Delicato Family Vineyards. Adame joined Terravant as a brand ambassador in April 2014. Details: terravant.com. Paso's Robert Hall dies Robert L. Hall, owner of Robert Hall Winery, died Oct. 4 at the age of 85. Originally from St. Paul Minn., Hall in- vested in a variety of business ventures in- cluding bowling cen- ters, travel agencies, apartments and shopping centers, according to a statement released by the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance. In the 1970s Hall and his family took a trip to Southern France, where he discovered a passion for wine. After researching various areas, he settled on Paso Robles for the location of his vineyards and winery, and he began making wine in 2001.
