Pillsbury Wine Co. building new winery Pillsbury Wine Co. in Phoenix, Ariz., an- nounced it has secured the financing to build a winery facility on its 100-acre property near Willcox, Ariz. The company plans to finish the winery in time for the 2014 harvest. Owner Sam Pillsbury planted his first vines in 2000 and is committed to making wine with only Arizona fruit. "The new facility will give us the opportunity to complete the circle and actually make and age the wine right here where the grapes are grown," he said. Aurora Cellars opens David and Faye Mathia have opened Aurora Cellars in Lake Leelanau, Mich. The winery is the former Circa Estate Winery, which closed in January 2013. Aurora Cellars is a new member of the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail and is offering 10 wines that range from dry to sweet and include a Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Riesling and a hard cider. The winery is located on the Old Mission Peninsula Wine Trail, and the initial release will include Char- donnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc wines made with fruit sourced from the Old Mission Pen- insula AVA. According to a news release an- nouncing the opening, the Oosterhouses plan to sell the winery's limited production of 5,000 to 8,000 cases through the tasting room, e-commerce and a few distribution ac- counts. Carter Oosterhouse is a design and building expert who has hosted several shows on the HGTV network. Stone Hill takes 'trifecta' of honors Stone Hill Winery's 2012 Cross J Norton won a trifecta of honors at the 2014 Missouri Wine Competition. The wine won Best of Class Dry Red, C.V. Riley Award for the best Norton and the Governor's Cup for the best wine of the state. This is the second year in a row for the winery in Hermann, Mo., to win all three major awards.
