ASEV-Eastern Section Awards Recognize Scholars and Students A ustin, Texas—At the student-industry mixer held June 26 dur- ing its joint meeting with the American Society for Enology and Viticulture, the ASEV-Eastern Section presented its Outstand- ing Achievement Award to Dr. Alan Lakso, emeritus professor at Cornell University's New York State Agricultural Experiment Station. The Eastern Section presented its Distinguished Service Award to Mark Chien, who served as viticulture educator for Penn State Cooperative Extension for 15 years. Eastern Section awarded five student scholarships this year. Recipients included Megan Hall (Cornell University), Cain Hickey (Virginia Tech), Adam Karl (Cornell University), Gal Kreitman (Penn- sylvania State University) and Lindsay Springer (Cornell University). Nicholas Basinger (North Carolina State University) and Alex Fred- rickson (Cornell University) won awards for best student papers. Next year's annual conference for ASEV-Eastern Section will be held July 23-25, 2015, in Fredonia, N.Y. —Linda Jones McKee Peter Cousins chats with Amanda Stewart of Virginia Tech at the Texas Regional Wine Reception.
