The increase comes at a time when wine ship- ments overall tend to decrease because of hot weather. Last Call Wines led all websites by accounting for a quarter of the 427 total offers. June's offers came from 264 unique wineries. The significant majority of wines offered by flash web- sites come from California, and of those most are from either Napa or Sonoma coun- ties. Wines from Sonoma County accounted for 1,886 offers in the past 12 months, or 32% of the 5,994 total offers. Sonoma County offers reflect a wider diversity of wine types than Napa County offers, which were led by Cabernet Sauvignon and red blends. Pinot Noir accounted for the most offers from Sonoma County, followed by Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Sonoma County's regional differences are evident in the wines selling from this area, as the most offers for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir came from the Russian River Valley region; Zinfandel led all of- fers from the Dry Creek Valley, and Cab- ernet Sauvignon was the most common wine type out of the Alexander Valley. High-priced Cabernet Sauvignon led Al- exander Valley to have the highest average retail price ($41) and the highest average flash price of $25.42. Flash sites offered some high-priced Russian River Valley wines, yet the region's average retail price was $38.50, and the average flash price was $23.14. Flash offers also reflect the difference in pricing between Sonoma and Napa counties. Napa wines generally had higher prices, with nearly 40% of the offers in a 12-month period ending in May priced above $20, and 291 of those priced at more than $40.
