The expo featured seminars and networking opportunities as well as 160 exhibitors. "The turnout was sim- ply incredible," said Kellie Shevlin, the expo's executive director. Huntsinger to retire from Trinchero Jim Huntsinger, executive vice president of pro- duction for Trinchero Family Estates in St. Helena, announced his plans to retire at the end of the year after working for more than 50 years in the wine industry. Huntsinger started his career at Almaden Vineyards and then Korbel Champagne Cellars, where he worked for 14 years before joining Sutter Home in 1987. At the time Sutter Home was the Trin- cheros' only brand, and Huntsinger helped grow the company's portfolio to more than 40 brands and 500 SKUs. In addition to managing production, Huntsinger also oversaw new fa- cility development and acquisition including the company's new winery in Lodi, which will open in 2015. Details: tfewines.com. Shannon Ridge hires new winemaker Jason Welch is the new winemaker at Shannon Ridge Vineyards & Winery in Lake County. Welch has worked for wineries throughout the North Coast and earned a winemaking certifi- cate from the University of California, Davis, in 2007. Details: shannonridge.com. Domaine Anderson opens in Mendocino County Domaine Anderson winery opened in the An- derson Valley of Mendocino County during the recent Anderson Valley Pinot Noir Festival held May 16-18 (see page 28 for event details). The winery is owned by the Rouzaud family behind Champagne producer Louis Roederer, and it is focused on producing premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. Winemaker Jerry Murray will be making wines from a 17-acre vineyard adjacent to the new facility as well as 35 acres of vines located throughout the valley. Details: domaineanderson.com. Petaluma Gap looks to become AVA Growers in the Petaluma Gap region of So- noma County have started the process of ap- plying for their own AVA. Located near the city of Petaluma, the cool region buffeted by regular and often strong winds is known for producing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Anne Keller, the general manager of Keller Estate Winery and president of The Petaluma Gap Winegrowers Alliance, said an AVA is needed to identify the region and help it stand out in Sonoma County.
