Chardonnay dominated DtC shipment market share among white wines to an even greater degree than in off-premise sales. Sauvignon Blanc was second for DtC whites, while in off-premise sales it was third behind Pinot Grigio. Wine Industry Metrics All Positive for 13th Consecutive Month The three major metrics of wine industry economic health stayed in the green during April, stretching the current growth streak to 13 months. Direct-to-consumer shipments in April rose 11% over April 2013. The Winery Job Index grew 10%, and off-premise sales increased by 6%, with Sauvignon Blanc as the fastest growing varietal white wine category, according to Chicago, Ill.-based market-research firm IRI. Value of DtC shipments from U.S. wineries grew by 11% in April compared to April 2013, matching the 12-month growth rate.
