Seguin Moreau acquires Fine Northern Oak Seguin Moreau announced its acquisition of oak barrel-alternatives supplier Fine Northern Oak based in Appleton, Wis. The French cooper, which operates a cooperage in Napa, Calif., takes control of the Fine Northern Oak brand as well as equipment and inventory. Fine Northern Oak founder David Plumb will remain with the company, and Philippe Michel of Oak Tradition will continue to represent the company in the Pacific Northwest. Cadus splits from Bouchard Cooperages Bouchard Cooperages in Napa, Calif., announced that Tonnellerie Cadus is end- ing its contract with the barrel-distribu- tion group after a 17-year partnership. The company will now represent tonnelleries Billon, Damy, Vicard and the oak barrel- alternative company Canadell in North America. Vincent Bouchard, Jean Vicard and Pierre Henry Gagey founded Tonnel- lerie Cadus in 1996, and Bouchard origi- nally brought the brand to North America in 1997. Sales rep changes at Laffort Lindsey Otis is the new technical representative for Laffort USA in Cal- ifornia's Sonoma and Mendocino counties. Before joining Laffort, Otis was the enologist at Williams Selyem Winery. Darren Michaels, who had been working in Sonoma and Mendocino, relo- cated to the Northwest, where he will be Laffort's representative for Oregon and Washington. Details: laffort.com. New reps for Leroi Barrels Leroi Barrels, which is part of Charlois Cooperage USA, announced it added two new sales representatives. Justin Michaud, who has more than 12 years of wine indus- try experience, will cover the Pacific North- west region; Tim Drake, who has worked in barrel sales for the past five years, will cover Texas. Cork campaign to help wineries with marketing The cork-awareness c a m p a i g n 1 0 0 % Cork is launching a new effort to help wineries that use cork bottle closures to promote their brands. The campaign made its debut at the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium in Sacramento, Calif., and will assist wineries that use corks with social media publicity, marketing materials and news media public relations. The campaign is highlighting a recent consumer survey in which 61% of those surveyed expressed a preference for cork. "Despite consumer preference for natural cork, most wineries that use cork rarely inform customers of their choice for closure," said Carlos de Jesus, global campaign director for the Portuguese Cork Association.
