W i n e s & V i n e s M A R C H 2 0 1 4 21 Innovation award winners announced Ridge Vineyards of Cupertino, Calif., won the inaugural Vintage Report innovation award for the study "The Effects of Lag Phase Thinning on Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel." The innovation award is sponsored by Bank of the West and Fruition Sciences. The com- panies also honored Ovid Napa Valley winemaker Austin Peterson for his study of water use and Murphys, Calif.-based Vine- yard Concepts for its development of a bin cover to help keep grapes cool during trans- port. New COO at Flora Springs Steve Tamburelli is the new chief operating offi- cer at Flora Springs Winery & Vineyards in St. Helena, overseeing all winemaking, produc- tion, marketing and sales operations. Tamburelli most recently was the general manager for Chappellet Winery. Geyser Peak to move Accolade Wines announced it would be moving its Geyser Peak Winery and tasting room into the former Alderbrook Winery property in Healdsburg. The new location will house the Geyser Peak tasting room and administrative offices and should be open by March or April. Terlato Wine Group sold the Alderbrook property in early January to Bernard Orsi, who owns Orsi Papale Estate Wines. The Geyser Peak wines are produced at Asti Winery in Clo- verdale through a partnership with Trea- sury Wine Estates. Truchard appointed to GM post Anthony Truchard II, the youngest son of Truchard Vineyards founders Tony and Jo Ann Truchard, is the new general man- ager of the winery located in the Napa County side of the Carneros AVA. Truchard is the winery's former sales and marketing direc- tor and helped expand sales into Canada, the United Kingdom and China. Details: truchardvineyards.com. Saralee Kunde dies Saralee McClelland Kunde, who was a leading figure in Sonoma County agricul- ture and one of its most well-respected grapegrowers, died Jan. 26 at age 66. She married Richard Kunde in 1982, and the two established the 245-acre vineyard known as "Richard's Grove and Saralee's Vineyard." The Kundes had sold grapes to 60 wineries before selling the vineyard to Jackson Family Wines in 2012. The Cool Climate Series by T.W. Boswell is the embodiment of elegance.
