New director of Washington wine auction Aimee Sheridan is the new executive director of the Auction of Washington Wines. Sheridan has more than 20 years of experience managing non-profits including Boys & Girls Clubs and the Salvation Army. The 2014 auction takes place Aug. 15-17. Details: auctionofwashingtonwines.org. WSU releases first student-made wine A group of six Washington State University (WSU) students has released a 2012 Yakima Valley Dry Riesling under the Blended Learning label. The team of students worked with the winemakers at Fidelitas winery in Richland, Wash., and Hogue Cellars in Prosser, Wash., to produce the 100 cases of wine, which is being sold through the WSU visitors' center and WSU Connections in Seattle. Two student-produced Cabernet Sauvignon wines are currently C E N T RAL the Southwest Wine Center. The winery will be built on the site of a former racquetball building and is expected to produce 3,000 cases of wine per year. The $2.2 million project cost includes $1.9 million to renovate existing buildings and $300,000 for winemaking equipment. The school already has planted 6 acres of a planned 17-acre vineyard.
