back to the 1860s when Hungarian exile and Buena Vista
Winery founder Colonel Agoston Haraszthy commissioned
Wells Fargo to carry 300,000 Old World vine cuttings and
roots to New World vineyards in California. The clippings and
vines arrived, Haraszthy reported, "in the very best condition."
