EAST Sapporo Winners named in Finger Lakes Riesling challenge A panel of winemakers from the Finger Lakes AVA picked four Riesling wines Tokyo as the region's best Nagoya during the recent Osaka Hiroshima Wine Symposium of the Finger Lakes. The winning wines and competition Japan categories were: dry Riesling—Hosmer Winery's 2011 Dry Riesling; medium dry—Glenora Wine Cellars' 2011 Riesling; medium sweet—Fox Run Vineyards' 2011 Reserve Riesling; sweet—Anyela's Vineyards' 2011 Riesling. Ontario wine supporters honored The Vintners Quality Alliance Ontario presented its Promoters Awards to four people who celebrate Ontario wine "with unselfish enthusiasm, constructive input and unsolicited promotion." Winners included James Muir, beverage manager at 360 Restaurant; Harald Thiel, owner of Hidden Bench Vineyards and Winery; Rick VanSickle, wine writer; and Charles Ronzio, the LCBO product consultant in Ontario. Cork Supply earns ISO certification Cork Supply USA in Benicia, Calif., received ISO 9001-2008 certif ication for its processes to manufacture and distribute wine packaging and oak products. Details: corksupply.com. Pro Refrigeration expands Appointments at Williamsburg Winery Patrick G. Duffeler II is the new chief executive officer of Williamsburg Winery in Williamsburg, Va. Duffeler is the winery's former chief operating officer. Winemaker Matthew G.R. Meyer has been appointed executive vice president. Glycol chiller manufacturer Pro Refrigeration Inc. plans to build a second production facility in Mocksville, N.C. The firm currently employs 50 workers at its 25,000-square-foot factory in Auburn, Wash. According to a news release, Pro Refrigeration will repurpose an existing building in North Carolina, creating 58 jobs and investing $3.6 million during the next three years.
